Kelley W. Lavery received his Bachelors of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Iowa in 2001. In 2005, he obtained his Juris Doctor from the New England School of Law.
While in law school, Mr. Lavery worked for the law firm of Sullivan & Associates, P.C. in Quincy, Massachusetts. He also served as a student intern with Shelter Legal Services where he provided legal representation to women living at a local homeless shelter.
Following his graduation from law school, in 2005 Mr. Lavery was sworn in as an Assistant Prosecutor with the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office (under Prosecutor Edward DeFazio). Mr. Lavery started in the appellate section of the office before matriculating to the juvenile bureau and ultimately onto a trial team. There Mr. Lavery managed a wide variety of indictable prosecutions from Grand Jury to disposition including aggravated assaults, weapons offenses, narcotics offenses, thefts, burglaries, and robberies.
In 2007, Mr. Lavery was sworn in as an Assistant Prosecutor with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office (under Prosecutor Robert A. Bianchi). He started on the trial team before being promoted in 2009 to the head of the Vehicular Homicide, Arson and Environmental Unit. In this capacity, Mr. Lavery oversaw the investigations and subsequent prosecutions of fatal motor vehicle crashes, significant arsons and environmental actions. In 2010, Mr. Lavery was promoted to the Major Crimes Unit. While maintaining his role as the head of the Vehicular Homicide, Arson and Environmental Unit, Mr. Lavery also assumed the additional responsibilites of supervising investigations into homicides, bank robberies and other high profile matters. Mr. Lavery successfully handled an array of criminal prosecutions including homicides, attempted murders, vehicular homicides, aggravated arsons, aggravated sexual assaults, aggravated assaults, assaults by auto, robberies, burglaries, official misconduct offenses, thefts, frauds, witness tampering offenses, narcotics cases and weapons possessory offenses.
Mr. Laveyer joined Purcell, Mulcahy, Hawkins, Flanagan & Lawless in 2012. He was assigned to the general litigation department and the criminal and municipal law section of the firm. He tried multiple cases to jury verdicts in Middlesex, Somerset, and Atlantic Counties when representing defendants in civil suits. Additionally, he handled and assisted other attorneys with complex insurance coverage disputes, contractual litigation and various other personal injury actions.
In June 2016, Mr. Lavery joined Shamy, Shipers & Lonski, P.C. as he desired working for those injured parties who seek redress. He represents individuals injured in car accidents, work place injuries, slip and falls, dog bites, and various other unfortunate incidents. He continues to practice criminal law in Superior Courts and represents people charged with traffic violations, DUIs and disorderly persons offenses in municipal court.
Mr. Lavery is a Certified Criminal Trial Attorney Certified by the Supreme Court of New Jersey (2012), a distinction held by few criminal practitioners.
